Values

Lilias Graham, the owner of Braendam House, was a community worker living and working in Glasgow with families in poverty. In 1967 she opened her house for holiday breaks where families paid a small contribution to come and stay to escape the misery of domestic violence, "drunken" husbands or other related issues connected with poverty. Lilias recruited all her friends and neighbours as volunteers and Braendam Family House was born.

In 1987 Lilias entrusted the house and grounds to ATD Fourth World (UK), who hold it in Trust. ATD (A Toute Détresse) is a large international charity committed to ‘putting an end to poverty and social exclusion’. Since the work of Braendam House is entirely consistent with the aims of ATD, Lilias selected this organisation as the trustee of the property but without management involvement. Thus, the Lilias Graham Trust has exclusive use of the house and grounds.
Ideally situated in the centre of Scotland, 5 miles from Callander on the edge of the Trossachs and 8 miles from Stirling, Braendam Family House sits within its 3 acres of garden and grounds and remains true to its original constitution of helping families and people in poverty.
In May 2006 at the Annual General Meeting a special resolution was passed to change the company name in order for the Board to retain the founder name to The Lilias Graham Trust. This was a popular vote with past families who were service users at some point in thier lives. Over the years, modern regulations have rightly insisted the charity to become more accountable and professional in the services which it provides. The future directions of The Lilias Graham Trust lies in continuing to change and meet the modern day demands that poverty brings to our families in Scotland.
